Swim Team

Starting blockMarshfield Parks and Recreation offers swim team for ages 5-17 in a recreational league focused on developing the skills of each swimmer. Practices are located at the Dr. Tommy Macdonnell Aquatic Center, 1490 N. Elm. Practices are divided by beginner, intermediates, and advanced to help each individual participant work on improving to the next level and achieving their highest potential. Each swimmer will receive a team shirt and swim cap. Registration fee also includes entry in 4 swim meets in the Southwest MO Swim League and the championship meet at either Drury or MSU.

Participants must be able to swim 25 yards continuously unassisted and take breaths while swimming.

Practices

Practices will cover the fundamentals of backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly, and freestyle. The first day of practice will be an assessment of each swimmer to place them in their appropriate level. First day of practice is May 30 at 7:30pm. Practices will be one hour long for all levels and will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays till the Championship meet. 

Levels

Beginner: Focuses on stroke mechanics for the 4 competitive strokes (butterfly, freestyle, backstroke, and breast stroke.) This group will be introduced to starts and turns.

Intermediate: Focus for this group will be to improve technique. Strokes should start to look natural and have a fluid motion. Instruction will work on improving starts and turns.

Advanced: Focus will be on refining strokes, building up endurance and speed. This group will work on efficiency of starts and turns.

Ages: 5-17yo, must be able to swim 25 yards continuously unassisted and take breaths while swimming.

Weather Policy

The Parks Department may cancel, delay or postpone practice due to inclement weather and/or thunder and lightning.  Notification will be made at least 1 hour prior to practice. A post will be made on Facebook following notification through the Remind App.  The make-up date will be communicated though the Remind App and  Facebook.
